VCU Health System Director Tim Gibbs to Serve on AEHIT Board

ANN ARBOR, MI, Dec. 3, 2018 – Tim Gibbs, an information technology executive with nearly 20 years of experience in IT, has been elected to serve on the board of the Association for Executives in Healthcare Information Technology (AEHIT), beginning Jan. 1, 2019.

Gibbs is director of the newly formed service management department in VCU Health System’s information technology department. He is responsible for the design, implementation and management of enterprise-wide information technology service management. Prior to his current role, he spent four years within the VCU Health System as the director of information technology and information security officer for Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. His other positions have included roles in technology architecture, technology consulting and systems engineering.

“Traditional technology teams and departments are at the doorstep of what I believe to be a transformational shift and focus on the services aspect of our industry,” Gibbs said. “The culmination of technology and formalized services will result in the technology department of tomorrow, a department of technology outcomes that contribute to the overall mission. I believe that AEHIT can and should help lead and shape this change within our industry.”

Gibbs has an MBA from Strayer University and is a certified (ISC)2 Healthcare Information Security and Privacy Practitioner. He is an active member of AEHIT and the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME), where he volunteers as a mentor. Launched in 2014 through CHIME, AEHIT is a membership organization that provides education and networking opportunities to healthcare’s senior IT leaders.

“Tim offers the perspective of an IT expert who understands where we have been and where we are going with healthcare IT,” said Mark Amey, chief information officer at Alameda Health System and AEHIT board chair. “He can draw from both his decades of experience and the cutting-edge work he is doing at VCU Health System to help steer AEHIT into the future.”
