In 2017, AEHIT recognized three organizations for outstanding achievements in healthcare IT at our Fall Summit in late October. Each award winner exceled in different aspects of healthcare technology – HIT Innovation, Patient Digital Experience and Infrastructure/Application Development. These winners were recognized on stage and provided with a congratulatory trophy to commemorate their successes as an organization.

The HIT Innovative Project of the Year, was given to Community Health Systems, headquartered in Franklin, Tenn. Their innovative use of healthcare IT allowed them to capture quality metrics, monitor quality and outcomes and close gaps in care. They reported a 30 percent decrease in no-show appointments for ambulatory patient visits as well as improvements in their in-network referral management and Meaningful Use processes.

The award for Patient Digital Experience Project of the Year was given to Miami-based Femwell Group Health, which focused on developing a digital strategy that would allow them to coordinate care across a patient’s entire journey. Their efforts to enhance the patient experience and increase patient engagement translated into improved quality and patient satisfaction metrics that fall in line with value-based care.

Finally, the Infrastructure/Application Development Project of the Year award recognized Hennepin Healthcare System in Minnesota. They built a privately managed network for the organization on a tight timeline. The IT infrastructure team worked with industry partners to increase bandwidth 10-fold while reducing costs.

Hennepein Healthcare System CTO Matt Werder, who represented Hennepin Healthcare System at last year’s AEHIT Fall Summit, said of the award, “Recognition for our success reducing costs and increasing consistent access to our networks is a reminder of the great work we’re doing as an organization. It means a lot for AEHIT to recognize our organization.”

In the coming weeks, AEHIT will begin accepting new nominations for these three award categories for 2018. Members will have several weeks to nominate themselves or other organizations and submit a short essay outlining the success of their nominee. For additional award criteria and submission requirements, visit aehit.org/awards/ for more information.

Winners will be notified prior to the AEHIT Fall Summit and be recognized during the three-day event for their successes in healthcare IT. The AEHIT Fall Summit runs from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2, concurrent with CHIME’s CIO Fall Forum, and will feature three days of keynote sessions, collaborative activities and informative education sessions for CTOs and other healthcare IT leaders.

In addition to the annual AEHIT Awards series, AEHIT will also open nominations over the summer for three new members of the AEHIT Board. If you are interested in serving in an advisory capacity, helping to grow and improve our association, board service is an excellent way to collaborate with other leaders, improve your leadership skills and give back to the industry. Board members serve three-year terms, and have an opportunity to serve in a vice chair or chair role during their tenure.

There are plenty of ways to get involved in AEHIT. As we grow and expand our association, follow us on LinkedIn and Twitter for engagement opportunities and association news, and look out for regular emails informing you of all the latest AEHIT has to offer. If you have any questions about your membership or how to get involved in AEHIT, AEHIT staff are happy to answer your questions and direct you to the right opportunity for you.
